Swarovski Beyond Tradition – a concept for a Báijû Special Edition in cooperation with Swarovski.
The Báijiû (chin.:白酒, White Alcohol) is a traditionally produced grain brandy and the national drink of the Chinese. Horrendous amounts get paid for a single Báijiû edition filled in complex bottles – when giving it as a gift to friends or business partners, the expense is gladly mentioned. A special edition can and should therefore be impressive, and means that we have to dive deep into the Chinese culture, the traditional production process, and a to us foreign understanding of status symbols. A trip to China shows: Hardly any other culture is based that much on fixed rituals, traditions, superstitions, and beliefs yet is that ambitious, speeded-up, and western oriented.
We highlight this ambivalence in our design. Modern and traditional combined in a concept for a schnaps bottle. A clear and modern bottle made of many layers, surrounding a fine, smooth curved traditional Chinese bottle that only gets visible at certain angles. A flame red dragon (the symbol for luck and piece) made from finest Swarovski crystals lays ribbon-like around the bottle. Beyond-Tradition – a special edition for Louzhou 1573.
